When I launched my interior design business I spent money on shit I did not need. I changed my services way too regularly and I was running around chasing the knowledge I hoped would make me a star!
These are the things I wish I had known when I was starting out:
The real world is severe and there are no shortcuts to success.
Getting yourself out there is hard but persevering pays off.
It is essential to be lean, agile and focused.
Never assume you know everything and do not be afraid to ask questions.
The industry is changing so transparency and collaboration should be encouraged.
It is cool to outsource and bring in different skills.
The key to scaling up is loving what you do and having fun doing it.
Learning how to navigate the jungle will define you as a designer.
Representing pride, strength and courage.
Displaying energy, confidence and indulgence.
Symbolising a wild, bold and dynamic attitude.
Reflecting grace, partnership and longevity.
