Weynton Street, Sydney
3 bed · 2 bath · REFURBishment
This Australian home is a vision of modern family living. The clients were busy parents with children who specified a practical environment with scope for a home office, the feel of a haven in the evening and the ability to host at the weekends.
Bright yet sophisticated tones are used throughout this expansive property. The design studio chose to pair stormy greys with sparks of aqua, pink, yellows and red, interlaced with swards of monochrome prints.
Simple painted walls expand the spaces, and pared back furniture emphasises the soft furnishings dotted throughout. Despite the familiar and comforting atmosphere of the home, the overall aesthetic is largely minimalistic. The kitchen-dining area is especially minimal, with light wooden floors, matching staircase and dining table and white chairs and countertops. The interest of the space comes from the industrial, red barstools to perch upon at an elegant, off-centre island counter and artfully matching red appliances.
The folding glass doors in the dining area lead to a decking area, which acts as an extension to the home. The wooden deck shares the same elements as the flooring inside, creating a fluidity between the spaces. The deck metamorphoses into an outside lounge area, complete with a luxurious seating area, soft cushions and indulgent fire pit, beside which to while away the summer evenings.
