Bright and Bold Coastal Villa

A Modern and Playful Coastal Villa

Our clients for this luxury property refurbishment in Phuket, Thailand were a young expat family residing in Hong Kong. The villa’s interiors were tired, dated and in much need of a design refresh. The location, on the tropical, palm-fringed coast of Phuket was second to none for back-to-nature living and ultimate tranquillity. The clients were keen to keep the property feeling fresh, modern and suited to young children so we selected furnishings that were not too precious and could be enjoyed in a relaxed manner. We transformed this once outdated Thai property into a luxurious haven of fun, playfulness and relaxation through an imaginative use of bold primary colours, geometric design and modern works of art including a Danish tapestry hanging about the sofa in the living area.

Interiors Designed for Indoor-Outdoor Entertaining

This villa comes complete with an outdoor pagoda lounge area, infinity swimming pool and sunbathing patio, so we wanted to ensure the lines between interior and exterior were blurred so as to give this property an outside-inside vibe, perfect for entertaining.

Minimal Soft Furnishings and Spacious, Airy Living Spaces

The architectural design of this holiday property meant that the bedrooms and living room featured floor-to-ceiling windows. This created an airy living space with an abundance of light. We kept the focus on inviting the outside in and kept the interior design minimal with soft furnishings which allowed light to permeate the space. The overall vibe is uplifting, optimistic, friendly, homely and family oriented. The furniture was custom-made as opposed to branded and care was taken to ensure that it was hard wearing enough to work with young children, as our clients didn’t want to worry about the interiors of the property getting easily damaged or aging.

Four-Poster Beds for Added Drama

In the bedrooms, dramatic angular four-poster beds gave architectural grandeur, whilst the selection of local artworks around the property completed the contemporary vibe and celebrated the location of the property.

Custom-Built Furniture

Almost all of the furniture was designed and built exclusively by our team for the project. When selecting colours for this, we ensured the palette delivered a bright and pleasing aesthetic, reminiscent of sunshine. Bright yellow chairs in the dining room, for instance, work perfectly with the yolk pendant light hanging above the dining room table. Bright blue and purple-hued hanging lights on either side completed the look. The sunshine theme continued onto the grainy wooden unit nearby, through its golden frame, which stood out brilliantly against the darker wooden shelves. Books and decorative mementos add a personal touch to the dining area.

Top 100 International Interior Designer

The block-colouring throughout maintained the humour of our scheme and cultivated a warm and welcoming feel. For this, our interior design studio was featured in the Top 100 International Interior Designer list in the Interior Design Review, 2017.

Brian has great ideas and worked hard to find new materials and cost-effective solutions to upgrade our fit-out. In addition, he was comfortable working in a number of different styles, but at the same time he was able quickly to hone in our preferred look and feel, and to come up with a thematic idea for our redecoration.

A Strong but Simple Design Aesthetic

We decided to go for a strong but simple feel in the downstairs lounge and entertaining area. White walls with spotlights keep the space minimal. The dark grey modular sofa with striped cushions ties in with the unique, oversized artwork which hangs above it and in the corner of the room, apple-green built-in storage provides a touch of colour.
